What Makes Our Technics Servicing Different (And Why It Matters)

If you think all Technics servicing is the same, think again. We break down what we do, why it matters, and what separates a proper service from a quick once-over.

Let’s be real for a second…

Not all 'Technics Services' are the same.

Some are a quick clean, a bit of oil, tweak the Pitch adjust, lid back on, job done.

Ours - is not that.

At Restore Audio, we treat every Technics like it’s our own. This is because before we were repairing them, we were DJing on them.

We know exactly how they should feel, and want you to feel that too.

Most “services” look like this:

  • Quick external clean

  • Maybe a bit of spindle oil

  • Adjust the Pitch pot

  • Basic once-over

  • Out the door

And yeah… that technically counts as a service.

But it’s not what we’d want on our own decks. This is why the price of services vary so much. And why replacing parts unnecessarily comes into play, and claims of "genuine" parts becomes a mindfield.

Platter polish (included as standard) ✨

This is a big one.

We polish the platter, coat the rim with ceramic wax, which brings it back to life. Something most companies don’t include as standard.

Why it matters:

  • Makes the deck look fresh out the box

  • Huge difference if you’re planning to sell

  • Clean, polished decks sell for noticeably more

It’s one of those things you don’t realise matters, until you see it done properly.

Full strip-down & deep clean 🔧

We completely strip the deck down and deep clean everything, not just what you can see.

We’re talking:

  • Internal components

  • Chassis

  • Hard-to-reach areas where years of dust, smoke, and spills live

Because honestly… some decks we open up are minging.

Proper RCA upgrades (done properly) 🔌

Upgrading RCA cables on Technics is where a lot of services fall apart.

The original cables are:

  • Thin (~3mm)

  • Basic shielding

  • Far from the standard of modern-day solutions

We use high-quality cable, Van Damme Twin, which are:

  • Around 6mm+ thick

  • Much better shielding

  • Built to last

  • Lower resistance

  • Increased durability

But here’s the issue. They don’t fit the original clamp.

So instead of bodging it (which we've seen a few times), we use:

👉 Custom 3D printed cable clamps

These:

  • Secure the thicker cable properly

  • Protect against strain

  • Give a clean, factory-looking finish

No extra cable ties. No hacks. No “that’ll do”.

Pitch strip, clean & regrease 🎚

We fully strip the pitch control, clean all internal components, and regrease it properly.

Result:

  • Smooth, consistent movement

  • Reduce rough spots and inconsistent resistance

  • Feels like it should again

There are times when we have to install a new pitch, and we offer 2 options.

  1. SFDZ122N11-1 - Genuine part from Pimp my Decks

  2. SFDZ122N11-2 - Reproduction part

Both feel great, however, the original calibrates as per the manual, the reproduction part generally leaves the 3.3% around 2.5% mark.

We’re also now offering:

👉 Pitch click removal — FREE of charge

Because let’s be honest, most DJs don’t want it.

----------------------------------------

Component-level checks 🧠

This is where we’re a bit different.

We don’t just clean and send it out, we actually understand the electronics inside.

We check for:

  • Failing components (Thermal Imaging Check)

  • Known weak points

  • Early signs of issues

Because the goal isn’t just:

👉 “Working today” ... It’s: 👉 Working properly for years

----------------------------------------

Why this actually matters

🎧 For DJs

  • Better pitch accuracy

  • Smoother feel

  • More reliable in real-world use

💰 For resale

  • Clean, polished decks = higher value

  • Buyers can see the difference immediately

🧼 For peace of mind

You’re not getting a rushed job, you’re getting something done properly.

----------------------------------------

Who this is for (and who it isn’t)

This service is for:

  • DJs who really care about their gear

  • People restoring decks properly

  • Anyone who wants that “like new” feel again

It’s probably not for:

  • Someone just looking for the absolute cheapest option

And that’s fine — we’re not trying to be that.

----------------------------------------

Final word

We’re not just a repair shop.

We’re DJs who got fed up seeing decks half-done, rushed, or butchered — so we built something better.

Every deck that comes through here gets treated with care, attention, and a bit of pride.

Because we know what it’s like to stand behind them.
